Phoebe Wiley makes majolica and stoneware pottery as well as paintings in oil and pastel in her studios at the end of the long lane. One medium informs the other; her pots have a painterly quality about them.
Tall candleholders in red earthernware , chicken portrait plates, large serving bowls, 8 sided individual pasta bowls, and tiny condiment bowls – that’s what Phoebe is working on this fall- these seem to be favorite pieces- what people come back for each year to add to their collections. - Most of these pieces are Majolica, which is a white glaze background with colors-greens, blues and yellow, painted on and melted in to the glaze background. Since each piece is unique—a new composition- a small painting- there will be plenty to choose from.
